Hey! My name is Cassandra, I’m a Registered Nurse working in A&E from Canada.
How long have you been in Australia for? What was the hardest part in getting organised to come and Nurse in Australia?
I have only just begun my Australian adventure! I have been here for 3 weeks, and so far the months of organising and waiting prior to arriving has been worth it. The hardest part of the whole process was the AHPRA application – making sure everything gets sent, and is up to their standards. But once you get that wonderful email saying you’ve been approved, everything else is easy peasy.
Where have you been in Australia so far? And what are some places you definitely want to visit while you’re here?
I’ve started out my adventure in Melbourne, and have already begun working as a nurse here. I hope to visit all around Australia and to other countries that are close to here during the year.
Was it easy to find information on what was required to Nurse in Australia?
The agency that I currently work for has helped with answering questions throughout the AHPRA application. But the AHPRA application is so confusing and stressful that it definitely helps if you know someone who has been through it before.
What are some tips you could give to other nurses who are only just starting to plan their move to Australia?
AHPRA – make sure you’ve gathered all your documents before mailing everything off. And if they ask for you to send in more information, see if it can be emailed to your registration officer instead. This will save you time and money. GOOD LUCK!!
